New project

Warm, pure vocals and gentle folk guitar are Chanel’s signature sound. Her music allows you to stop and take a breath, and enjoy the moments outside of the busy day-to-day. A writer and songwriter, she has travelled across the world to the USA, Europe and China with Brisbane folk-pop act ‘women in docs.’  And her music has been in the Top 10 of the US Blues and Roots charts. Recently, she has been learning to play the ukulele, writing songs and learning some folk tunes to play in her new duo Lucas/Clark.

Jamie Clark is a guitarist, songwriter, composer, arranger and bandleader in musical endeavours ranging from jazz, rock, country, folk, bluegrass to cabaret and music theatre. He has performed with Katie Noonan, Kate Miller-Heidke, James Morrison, The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Elly Hoyt, Kristen Beradi, Topology, Emma Pask, Vika and Linda Bull and the Ten Tenors. A notable performance was with legendary British artist Richard Thompson at the Port Fairy Folk Festival in 2015. He has appeared at various festivals including The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, The Woodford Folk Festival, The Brisbane Festival, The Manly Jazz Festival (Sydney), CMAA Bluegrass Flatpicking Champion in 2011 and described as “a cracking guitarist” by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Chanel and Jamie bring their duo to festivals and venues around Australia for the first time in 2020. So far they’ve performed at the Junk Bar, Ashgrove, The BUG, New Farm, and online during COVID-19 lock down. They are currently writing some songs together and hoping to make folk music cool again.

2020 is a music year!

Happy new year! Yes, I know that it is February already, but I’ve just started to book in my gigs for the year and am starting work on some new music. I’m very excited to have some time (after finishing my Master of Philosophy) to spend on music and songwriting again.

Hope to see you at a gig in SE Qld soon.

Queensland musicians I need your help!

I’m currently working on a research project about mid-career musicians in Queensland. If you are currently a practicing musician – you can help me out by filling in a short survey (coming soon).

You are invited to participate in this project if you are a practicing professional musician, who has more than 15 years of experience, and are aged between 30-55 years.

If you do not fit into this category of musicians – I would appreciate your help in sharing this survey with people that you know who do fit the research project criteria.

Links to survey coming soon…

House Concerts this weekend

This weekend is the second in a series of house concerts that I am performing with celebrated Brisbane writer, Nick Earls. We’ve put together a show in which Nick reads excerpts from his new novella series and tells stories about how he came up with the idea. I play some songs throughout, that go along with each story, and also play a few of my own songs at the end of the show.

We’ve been honoured to be invited into people’s lounge rooms and back yards to play for their friends, family, and neighbours. The show goes for about 2 hours and no venue is too small – just move the furniture back in your lounge room and invite 20 of your friends/family/neighbours to come and hang out.

We are doing shows in Highgate Hill and Oxley this weekend (invitation-only sorry). Let us know if you would like to host a show at your place and we’ll see what we can do!

Here are a few photos from one recent show (photos: Kate Schirmer (c) 2017).

Next Tuesday with John Fagan

This coming Tuesday 21 November, I’m playing a show with John Fegan (Rough Red) at New Farm Bowls. There is a blackboard to open the night – so come early and grab a spot. Great bowlo meals, cheap drink prices and night of songs! DO IT!

9.15pm until 10.00pm SILVER SIRCUS
Silver Sircus haunts the shadows between dark cabaret and theatrical performance. With a sensual and highly visual aesthetic, the band draws on post-rock and minimalist groove to carve its own niche. As much at home in a large venue as an intimate cabaret or spoken word setting, co-creators Lucinda Shaw and James Lees stitch together each distinctive Silver Sircus show.

House Concert in August

musicDushoni Productions welcome everyone to come along to our Winter Home Concert on Saturday – AUGUST 27th, featuring two of Queensland’s finest musical talents – Karen Anderson, supported by her Fortunate Sinners, and Chanel Lucas, from the folk-pop act, “women in docs”.

Karen and the Sinners are popular regulars at the Brisbane Jazz Club and there is not a seat available in the house when they play. With a quirky mix of material spanning the genres of jazz blues soul and re-workings of contemporary songs, there is always a surprise in a Sinners set.

Karen has been a well known presence on the local music and theatre scene for many years, and has performed at many festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Valley Jazz Festival and the Bay of Island Jazz and Blues Festival in New Zealand. She is known for her powerful and emotive vocal performance and has released 4 CDs, including a recent live CD with the Sinners.

The Sinners are made up of some of Brisbane’s finest musicians. With the calibre of Dale Rabic on keys/organ, John Hogan on guitar, Dr Bob Harley on bass and Steve Francis on drums, the songs fly. Come and join us for a relaxed and intimate gig!

Warm, pure vocals and gentle folk guitar are Chanel’s signature sound, and Chanel will open the concert with the first set. Her music allows you to stop and take a breath, and enjoy the moments outside of the busy day-to-day. A writer and songwriter, she has travelled across the world with Brisbane folk-pop act ‘women in docs.’ Recently, she has been learning to play the ukulele and writing songs for a solo project.

Thanks to Australian Songwriters Assoc

Thanks to the Brisbane chapter of the Australian Songwriters Association – for having me along as special guest at their monthly meeting recently.

It was a great day at Retro Bar in Kenmore. With some fabulous songs shared by everyone on the day. A great place to find inspiration, share your work, get feedback and meet other hard-working songwriters.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Cheers
