2020 is a music year!

Happy new year! Yes, I know that it is February already, but I’ve just started to book in my gigs for the year and am starting work on some new music. I’m very excited to have some time (after finishing my Master of Philosophy) to spend on music and songwriting again.

Hope to see you at a gig in SE Qld soon.

Wisdom Tree Live – all welcome

BICAS proudly present WISDOM TREE LIVE a wonderful night of Words & Music with highly-acclaimed author Nick Earls & Chanel Lucas (from Women in Docs), on Sunday 9th December 2018.

For info: 3408 9288 or our Facebook Page.    Tickets: $20 online.
BYO (drinks) and $10 pp optional finger food cost (pay at event for food).
Please BRING CASH TO PURCHASE BOOKS OR CDs on the night. 🙂

Nick Earls’s most recent published work, the novella series Wisdom Tree, has been called ‘a triumphant and extraordinary piece of fiction’ by the Sydney Morning Herald, and now there’s more – a live version, featuring Nick Earls and Chanel Lucas of much-loved Queensland band women in docs.
Wisdom Tree Live combines words and music – the stories behind the novellas, readings and songs – into a 90-minute show. It’s full of laughs, poignancy, great insights into the creative process and beautiful music, including songs by Paul Kelly, Leonard Cohen, originals and songs that demand singing along to.
Staged to acclaim at festivals around Australia, it’s time Wisdom Tree Live made its Bribie Island debut.
Nick Earls is the author of 26 books. Two of his novels have become feature films and five have become stage plays. His Wisdom Tree novellas have so far won five awards in Australia and the US and been shortlisted for five more.
Chanel Lucas is a writer and musician who has toured extensively in Australia and internationally with her band women in docs. Her music has been played on ABC Radio, Triple J and on U.S. TV shows, and reached the Top 10 of the U.S. Blues and Roots Charts.

New project underway

I’m working on a new project for October and November 2017. It involves music + storytelling + a lounge room. And it’s gonna be lots of fun! Stay tuned for details…

House Concert in August

musicDushoni Productions welcome everyone to come along to our Winter Home Concert on Saturday – AUGUST 27th, featuring two of Queensland’s finest musical talents – Karen Anderson, supported by her Fortunate Sinners, and Chanel Lucas, from the folk-pop act, “women in docs”.

Karen and the Sinners are popular regulars at the Brisbane Jazz Club and there is not a seat available in the house when they play. With a quirky mix of material spanning the genres of jazz blues soul and re-workings of contemporary songs, there is always a surprise in a Sinners set.

Karen has been a well known presence on the local music and theatre scene for many years, and has performed at many festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Valley Jazz Festival and the Bay of Island Jazz and Blues Festival in New Zealand. She is known for her powerful and emotive vocal performance and has released 4 CDs, including a recent live CD with the Sinners.

The Sinners are made up of some of Brisbane’s finest musicians. With the calibre of Dale Rabic on keys/organ, John Hogan on guitar, Dr Bob Harley on bass and Steve Francis on drums, the songs fly. Come and join us for a relaxed and intimate gig!

Warm, pure vocals and gentle folk guitar are Chanel’s signature sound, and Chanel will open the concert with the first set. Her music allows you to stop and take a breath, and enjoy the moments outside of the busy day-to-day. A writer and songwriter, she has travelled across the world with Brisbane folk-pop act ‘women in docs.’ Recently, she has been learning to play the ukulele and writing songs for a solo project.

Neurum Creek Music Festival

My next show is at Neurum Creek Music Festival. I’m playing around 12.30pm on SATURDAY 13 SEPT.

Neurum Creek Music Festival is a local acoustic music camping weekend held at Neurum Creek Bush Retreat in September each year. The 2014 festival will be held on the weekend of the 12, 13, and 14 September.

Other artists on the 2014 festival include: The Company, The Jar, Cloudstreet, The Poachers, Rebecca Wright and Donald Mackay, Steve Tyson and the New Felons, Stockade and more.

The festival aims to provide an atmosphere of community and inclusion for the south-east corner of Queensland by showcasing the established and up and coming talents of this corner of the world, as well as featuring acts from around Australia.

The main festival area (stage and bar) incorporates a magnificent old tree, atmospherically lit at night. You may wish to bring your own chair or picnic blanket for the concerts.

Thanks to The Bug and The Pockets

Thanks to Brisbane Unplugged Gigs (The Bug) and The Pockets for a fantastic night of music at New Farm Bowls. It was such a pleasure playing in a listening venue with great sound (Mark Smith).

I loved the old-timey four-part harmonies and ukuleles of The Pockets. Such beautiful voices and gentle songs. Will definitely try to see them play again soon.

Thanks also to everyone who came down on a Tuesday night. You were a fab audience! See you around Brisbane again soon.
